TACOMA, Wash. - Holding Pacific scoreless for nearly nine
minutes to start the game, the Puget Sound Loggers led from
wire-to-wire in a 52-40 win over the Pacific Boxers in a
Northwest Conference women's basketball game on Friday evening at
Memorial Fieldhouse in Tacoma, Wash.
It wasn't until the 11:17 mark int he first half that the
Loggers allowed a basket, holding the early 13-2 lead over the
visiting Boxers. Pacific continued to struggle warming up,
going nearly another six minutes without another two points before
eventually finding their rhythm. With the Loggers holding a
21-point advanatge with 6:21 to go in the first half, they were
able to cruise to a 32-17 halftime lead.
Int he second half, Pacific found their shooting, making 36% of
their attempts from the field and allowing the Loggers to shoot
just 25% on the period to prevent a runaway. The Loggers
maintained the lead however, collecting the 52-40 victory.
The Loggers were led by 11 points off the bench from Courtney
Blume (Olympia, Wash./River Ridge). Claire Ely (Walnut Creek,
Calif./Northgate) added 10 points to go with five assists and three
steals while Natasha Ludwig (Hilo, Hawaii/Waiakea) brought down a
team-high 11 rebounds.
Brittney Anderson led the Boxers with 13 points and 11 rebounds
off the bench. Rochelle Reeves chipped in 11 points in the
losing effort. Pacific turned the ball over 19 times in the
game, compared for 13 turnovers for the Loggers.
The Loggers will be back in action on Saturday night when they
play host to Willamette. Tip-off with the Bearcats is set for
6:00 p.m. at Memorial Fieldhouse.
