TACOMA, Wash. - The top-ranked Puget Sound Loggers pushed their
Northwest Conference winning streak to 22 matches on Sunday,
defeating the George Fox Bruins, 2-0, in a NWC women's soccer match
on Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.
With a strong headwind to start the game, the Loggers, ranked
first in the D3soccer.com Top 25, still managed to get off 14 shots
compared with just two for the Bruins but the wind aided George Fox
keeper Autumn Van Meter in making four first half saves as the two
teams headed into halftime with no score.
Puget Sound finally broke it up in the 64th minute when
sophomore Jenny Moore (Kent, Wash./Kentwood) dribbled past a
defender and unleashed a beautiful shot from the top of the box
that found its way into the upper right corner. Senior Janece
Levien (Beaverton, Ore.) made it 2-0 in the 78th minute, gaining
control of the ball in the middle of the box and firing in a shot
from point blank for her NWC-best 11th goal of the season.
Senior keeper Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline)
helped the Loggers collect their seventh shutout of the season,
making one save on three total Bruin shots. Van Meter
finished up a strong game for the Bruins with 11 total saves on 31
shots by Puget Sound, allowing the two goals.
The win was the 199th of head coach Randy Hanson's career as the
Loggers will attempt to win Hanson's 200th on Saturday when they
travel to McMinnville, Ore. to take on Linfield.
