Young Loggers Fall In Road Opener

SALEM, Ore. - The Puget Sound Logger women's tennis team played well on Friday afternoon but not well enough, falling to the host Willamette Bearcats, 8-1, in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match at the Courthouse Tennis Club in Salem, Ore.

In doubles play, the Loggers played the 'Cats tight, falling in the number one and two positions, 8-5, and in the third position, 8-3.  Things would remain close between the Loggers and Bearcats in singles play.

The Loggers' lone victory of the afternoon would come in the number two singles match as Alissa Wolf (Durango, Colo.) held off Kristen Dedijer-Small, 6-3, 6-1.  The Loggers nearly got another win by freshman Madison Holtz (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) in the third spot as Holtz fell to Fabi Dieguez, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4).  The Loggers also had a close match in the number six singles spot as Jessica Gauger (Portland, Ore./Claremont-M-S) fell to Jamie Slonake, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 1-0 (10-3).

The Loggers will look to bounce back on Sunday when the play host to Pacific Lutheran at the UPS Tennis Pavilion in Tacoma, Wash.
