SPOKANE, Wash. - The Puget Sound Loggers won their first sets of
the 2009 season but the Whitworth Pirates collected the 6-3 victory
in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match on Saturday in
Spokane, Wash.
The Pirates took the early lead by sweeping doubles play.
The closest match came in the third position, as the tandem of Sam
Finkleman (Tacoma, Wash./Charles Wright Academy) and Ollie Napier
(Los Altos, Calif./Pinewood) fell to the team of Kellen Ootgen and
Colin Barrett, 8-6.
In singles play, senior Jamie Hosmer (Tucson,
Ariz./Sabino) collected the win at the number one spot,
defeating Michael Shelton, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. Whitworth took wins
at the second, third and fourth spots to clinch the victory.
The Loggers won in the final two spots as Alex Harrison
(Southborough, Mass./The Rivers School) and Scooter Sabel (Sun
Valley, Idaho/Community School) collected wins at number five and
six respectively.
The Loggers will look for their first win of the season next
Friday when they travel to Beaverton, Ore. to take on Pacific.
