NEWBERG, Ore. - A pair of wins during doubles and four wins in
singles was enough to give the Puget Sound Loggers their first win
of the season as they defeated the host George Fox Bruins, 6-3, in
a Northwest Conference men's tennis match on Friday afternoon in
Newberg, Ore.
In doubles play, the Bruins got a win at the top spot but the
Loggers used an 8-6 win by Alex Harrison (Southborough,
Mass./The Rivers School) and Carl Larson (Portland,
Ore./Wilson) at the number two spot and an 8-4 win by Scooter
Sabel (Sun Valley, Idaho/Community School) and Zac Peeler
(Sandy, Utah/Waterford) at the third doubles spot to take the 2-1
lead.
George Fox won again at the top by wins by Sabel, Peeler, Nick
Kelly (Denver, Colo./Kent Denver) and George Murphy (Eugene,
Ore./South Eugene) allowed Puget Sound to celebrate the victory for
the first time this season after having played seven of their first
eight matches against regionally-ranked opponents.
The Loggers will go for win number two on Saturday when they
stop by Portland, Ore. to take on Lewis & Clark.
