McMINNVILLE, Ore. – After going on the offensive attack
for much of the first half, the Puget Sound Loggers gave up a
second-half goal to fall 1-0 to the Linfield Wildcats in a
Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon
in McMinnville, Ore.
In the first half, the Loggers (3-4-0, 0-1-0 NWC) seemingly spent
the majority of the half attacking the Linfield goal as they
outshot the Wildcats, 8-2, in the first 45 minutes and had three
corner kicks to just one for Linfield. Unfortunately for the
Loggers, none of those eight shots found the back of the net as the
teams headed into the half in a scoreless tie.
In the second half, the teams switched roles as Linfield became the
more offensive-minded team, putting up six shots compared to just
two for Puget Sound. The Wildcats finally broke the scoreless tie
in the 65th minute when Travis Isaacs scored off a Michel Camacho
assist and Linfield would hold on for the 1-0 victory.
Senior keeper Greg Saetrum (Boise, Idaho/Timberline) made four
saves in net but allowed the one goal to take the loss. Jon
Thompson made four saves for Linfield, who also collected a team
save in the match.
The Loggers will look to get back into the win column on Sunday
afternoon when they head down to Salem, Ore. to take on Willamette.
