Box Score TACOMA, Wash. – The University of Puget Sound women's basketball team turned solid performances on the defensive and offensive sides in a decisive 79-37 victory over Pacific on Saturday. Jocelyn Riordan scored a game-high 20 points and the Logger defense held the Boxers (1-4, 0-2 NWC) to 19 percent shooting.
The Loggers (5-1, 2-0 NWC) shot 46.9 percent in the game led by 8-of-11 shooting from Riordan. Kelsey McKinnis added 14 points to the Loggers cause as well as four assists and Lindsay Layland posted 14 points and five rebounds.
"Everyone came in and produced," commented head coach Loree Payne. "Each person's stat line was great for the minutes they were able to play. That's all you can ask for everyone to come in and take the level of the game up."
The Loggers came out firing on all cylinders as they built a 43-19 halftime lead, shooting 54.5 percent and 50 percent from beyond the arc. The Boxers shot 25 percent in both categories as the Logger defense continued to contest shots and force turnovers. The Boxers had 29 turnovers in the game.
In the second half, the defense didn't let up as they limited the Boxers to 19.6 percent shooting. Kristen Corrales came through with 15 points for Pacific, hitting three of her four three-point attempts.
For the fifth consecutive game, the Loggers have held their opponents under 46 points with tough defense. However, this is the first game in which they have limited opponents to less than 40 points.
"We've been really focusing on defensive discipline," said Payne. "We'll keep coming out and getting ready to get after team's defensively."
The Loggers will host Evergreen St. on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Memorial Fieldhouse.
