SPOKANE, Wash. - Still among the youngest teams in the Northwest
Conference, the Puget Sound Loggers went up against the best on
Saturday afternoon and played well but fell to the defending
Northwest Conference champion Whitworth Pirates, 9-0, in a NWC
women's tennis match in Spokane.
The Pirates, ranked sixth in the west region, swept the doubles
matches. Land of Lincoln teammates Ashley Dombrow (Lake
Forest, Ill./The Ethel Walker School) and Katie Hurley (Chicago,
Ill./New Trier) had the closest match for the Loggers, falling 8-5
to the team of Katie Staudinger and Stephanie Reardon.
In singles play, freshman Maddie Thiesse (Chanhassen, Minn./Holy
Family) nearly got a win in the third position before falling to
Mya Towne, 7-5, 6-4. The Pirates managed to win all six
singles matches in two sets.
The Loggers will make their highly-anticipated home debut on
Saturday, Feb. 20 when they play host to Willamette in a match
starting at 1:00 p.m. at UPS Tennis Pavilion in Tacoma, Wash.
