BEAVERTON, Ore. - Taking a 2-1 lead after doubles play, the
Puget Sound Loggers used strong singles play to win their first
match of the season, defeating the George Fox Bruins, 6-3, in a
Northwest Conference men's tennis match on Friday afternoon at
Tualatin Hills Tennis Club in Beaverton, Ore.
The Loggers took the early lead in doubles play, picking up
identical 8-4 victories in the numbers one and three spots.
The Colorado duo of Mike Cutter (Colorado Springs,
Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) and Nick Kelley (Denver, Colo./Kent
Denver) defeated Pedro Munoz and Juan Munoz at the top spot while
Scooter Sabel (Sun Valley, Idaho/Community School) and Andrew
Timmons (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) earned the win at the third
spot.
In singles play, Kelley again was victorious, defeating Pedro
Munoz, 6-0, 6-1. Alex Harrison (Southborough, Mass./The
Rivers School) earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over Nick Jenness at the
fourth spot while Sabel earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Josh
Williford. Freshman Ben Miller (Silverdale, Wash./Central
Kitsap) won his second consecutive match, earning a 6-3, 6-4 win
over Chris Schoon.
The Loggers will be back in action again on Saturday afternoon
when they take on Lewis & Clark, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at
Pamplin Sports Center in Portland, Ore.
