PORTLAND, Ore. - Sweeping through singles play, the Puget Sound
Loggers earned an easy 8-1 victory over the Lewis & Clark
Pioneers in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match on Saturday
afternoon in Portland, Ore.
The Loggers picked up easy wins in the first and third doubles
positions to take the early lead but Lewis & Clark was able to
steal a win in the second position, earning a 9-8 win as Puget
Sound held the 2-1 lead midway through the match.
In singles play, the Loggers swept through singles play.
Puget Sound's closest match same at the top spot as sophomore
Sam Finkleman (Tacoma, Wash./Charles Wright Academy) went
three-sets before beating Peter Ray, 6-7, 6-4, 6-3.
Puget Sound also earned individual wins from Mike Cutter
(Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) at the second spot,
Nick Kelley (Denver, Wash./Kent Denver) at the third spot, Alex
Harrison (Southborough, Mass./The Rivers School) at the fourth
spot, Scooter Sabel (Sun Valley, Idaho/Community School) at the
fifth spot and Ben Miller (Silverdale, Wash./Central Kitsap) at the
sixth spot.
The Loggers return home on Wednesday afternoon when they take on
cross-town rival Pacific Lutheran, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at UPS
Tennis Pavilion in Tacoma, Wash.
