SALEM, Ore. - Taking to the courts for the first time in 2010,
the Puget Sound Loggers fell short in the season opener, dropping a
7-2 decision to the Willamette Bearcats on Saturday afternoon at
Courthouse Tennis Club in Salem, Ore.
In doubles play, the Loggers managed to get a point at the
number three spot as the team of senior Ashley Dombrow (Lake
Forest, Ill./The Ethel Walker School) and freshman Katie Hurley
(Chicago, Ill./New Trier) held off the team of Katie Huber and Kate
Thurber, 8-6. The Bearcats collected the wins in the other
two doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into individual play.
In individual play, the Loggers got a win in the fourth spot as
Ada Yu (Salem, Ore./McKay) took advantage of playing in her home
town, defeating Willamette's Fabi Dieguez, 6-2, 7-6 (4).
Unfortunately for Puget Sound, the Bearcats would take the
remainder of the matches as they earned a 7-2 victory.
The Loggers will be back in action again on Sunday when they
travel to McMinnville, Ore. to take on Linfield.
