LA SIERRA, Calif. - After nearly two months of hard
work, the Puget Sound Loggers finally got a chance to feel good
from top to bottom as the maroon and white earned a 9-0 sweep
against La Sierra in a non-conference women's tennis match on
Friday.
In doubles play, the number one team of Samantha
Taylor (Hood River, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) and Madison Holtz
(Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) earned a convincing 8-1 win over their
La Sierra foes. The number two team of Ada Yu (Salem,
Ore./McKay) and Maddie Thiesse (Chanhassen, Minn./Holy Family) did
them one better, not dropping a game en route to an 8-0 win.
The short-handed Eagles forfeited the third doubles match as
the Loggers took the 3-0 lead into singles.
In individual play, Taylor was a 6-3, 6-1 winner in
the top spot while Holtz picked up her second straight victory,
6-0, 6-3, over Loreal Duque. Thiesse and Yu were 6-0, 6-0
winners at the third and fourth spots while sophomore Devin Fields
(San Francisco, Calif./Lick-Wilmerding) earned herself a 6-0, 6-0
win in the fifth position.
The Loggers wrap up the California road trip on
Saturday afternoon when they take on Caltech.
