TACOMA, Wash. - Coming off a two-week break, the Puget Sound
Loggers couldn't quite find a way to get past the regionally-ranked
Willamette Bearcats, falling 7-2 in a Northwest Conference men's
tennis match on Friday evening at UPS Tennis Pavilion in Tacoma,
Wash.
The Bearcats, ranked 11th in the latest ITA West Region
rankings, took the early lead by sweeping through doubles play to
put the Loggers behind by three points heading into singles play.
In individual play, Willamette's Michael Baumgartner had a tough
battle with Logger sophomore Sam Finkleman (Tacoma, Wash./Charles
Wright Academy) but Baumgartner found a way to earn the 6-3, 7-5
win. The Loggers claimed a pair of points at the bottom of
the lineup as senior Scooter Sabel (Sun Valley, Idaho/Community)
earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Lake Lagattuta. Freshman Ben
Miller (Silverdale, Wash./Central Kitsap) also earned the win,
collecting a 6-4, 6-4 win over Micah Mack.
The Loggers will be in action again on Saturday when they play
host to Linfield in a match set to begin at 1:00 p.m. at UPS Tennis
Pavilion in Tacoma, Wash.
