TACOMA, Wash. - With the fate of the match still in question
with the final two singles matches left to play, the Puget Sound
Loggers couldn't quite overcome the Linfield Wildcats, falling 6-3
in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match on Saturday at UPS
Tennis Pavilion in Tacoma, Wash.
The Wildcats took the lead following doubles but the Loggers
made them earn it. Puget Sound won in the third position as
Scooter Sabel (Sun Valley, Idaho/Community) and Andrew Timmons
(Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) earned an 8-3 win over Matt Levering
and Zachery Lyons.
The number one team of Nick Kelley (Denver, Colo./Kent Denver)
and Mike Cutter (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) battled
with the regionally-ranked team of Brett Kingzett and Mark Magdaong
before falling, 8-6.
In singles play, the Loggers earned win from Kelley in the third
position and Sabel in the fifth positions to get the Loggers within
a point with two matches left to play. Unfortunately for
Puget Sound, Linfield was able to hold off for wins in the fourth
and sixth spots to clinch the match.
The Loggers will wrap up the home portion of the schedule next
weekend as they play host to Lewis & Clark on Friday night and
George Fox on Saturday.
