TACOMA, Wash. – Riding a doubles sweep, the Puget Sound
Loggers picked up their third victory of the season, defeating the
Pacific Boxers, 7-2, in a Northwest Conference men's tennis
match on Saturday afternoon at the UPS Tennis Pavilion in Tacoma,
Wash.
In doubles play, the Loggers were led by the team of Mike Cutter
(Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) and Nick Kelley
(Denver, Colo./Kent Denver), who picked up an 8-5 win over Michael
Okada and Spencer Hing.
Sam Finkleman (Tacoma, Wash./Charles Wright Academy) and Alex
Harrison (Southborough, Mass./The Rivers School) picked up an 8-6
win at the second spot while Scooter Sabel (Sun Valley,
Idaho/Community) and Andrew Timmons (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View)
picked up an 8-6 win in the third spot.
In singles play, the Boxers managed to get a pair of the wins in
the top two spots but the Loggers swept the remainder to pick up
the 7-2 win. Kelley earned a come-from-behind three-set victory
over Eric Furuya in the third spot, winning 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
The Loggers hit the road next weekend, traveling to Whitworth on
Friday afternoon, beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Spokane, Wash.
