Loggers Knock Off Lutes To Wrap Up 2010

PARKLAND, Wash. - The Puget Sound Loggers will head into the offseason with a sweet taste in their mouths after beating cross-town rival Pacific Lutheran, 5-4, in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match on Sunday afternoon in Parkland, Wash.

The Loggers fell behind early after dropping two of three close matches in doubles. The Loggers did get a win in the third spot as Ashley Dombrow (Lake Forest, Ill./The Ethel Walker School) teamed up the Devin Fields (San Francisco, Calif./Lick-Wilmerding) to earn an 8-6 decision over Deanna Ellmer and Caitlyn Hoerr.

In singles play, the Loggers managed to get wins in four of six matches to complete the season-ending comeback.  Sophomore Madison Holtz (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) earned a 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 win over Cora Wigen in the second spot while Ada Yu (Salem, Ore./McKay) was a straight-set winner over Ali Burnside, 6-4, 6-1.

Fields also won her individual match, 6-4, 7-6, over Ellmer while Dombrow outlasted Hoerr in the sixth position, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 to collect the win.

The Loggers conclude the season with a record of 5-14 overall and 3-13 in conference matches, tied for PLU for seventh place in the final standings.
