BEAVERTON, Ore. - After being swept by Lewis & Clark on
Friday night, the Puget Sound Loggers picked up a 7-2 win over the
George Fox Bruins on Saturday afternoon at Tualatin Hills Tennis
Center in Beaverton, Ore.
On Friday night, the Pioneers swept past the Loggers, picking up
two of three doubles matches by scores of 8-0 and then earning
victories in all six singles matches in straight sets. The
closest match came at the bottom of the lineup as Ashley Dombrow
(Lake Forest, Ill/The Ethel Walker School) battled with Maggie
Peach in the sixth position before falling, 7-5, 7-6.
On Saturday, the Loggers took the early lead by taking all three
doubles matches, including a 9-8 win by Maddie Thiesse (Chanhassen,
Minn./Holy Family) and Ada Yu (Salem, Ore./McKay) in the second
spot.
In singles play, the Bruins managed to steal wins in the first
and fourth positions but the Loggers took care of business in the
other four positions to collect the victory. The closest
match came in the second spot as sophomore Madison Holtz (Honolulu,
Hawaii/Punahou) earned a 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 win over Mollee Robinson.
The Loggers return to Tacoma on Friday to take on Linfield in
their home finale. Match time with the Wildcats is set for
4:00 p.m.
