TACOMA, Wash. - Taking on their cross-town rivals, the Puget
Sound Loggers put together some competitive matches but ultimately
couldn't get over the hump, falling to the Pacific Lutheran Lutes,
8-1, in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match on Wednesday
evening in Tacoma.
The Lutes picked up three points in doubles play to take the
initial lead but the Loggers tried to keep in close, picking up at
least four games in each of the three doubles matches.
In singles play, freshman Mike Cutter (Colorado Springs,
Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) battled for a three-set victory over
senior Kevin Floyd, 7-6, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6), in the number one
position.
Fellow freshman Ben Miller (Silverdale, Wash./Central Kitsap)
also went three sets but ended up on the losing end of a 4-6, 6-3,
6-2 match in the fifth spot while senior Scooter Sabel (Sun Valley,
Idaho/Community) lost a close match in the fourth position, 7-6,
6-2.
The Loggers conclude the regular season and try to clinch the
sixth seed in next week's conference tournament on Friday afternoon
when they travel to Forest Grove, Ore. to take on Pacific.
