TACOMA, Wash. - The Puget Sound Loggers honored seniors Sam
Taylor (Hood River, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) and Ashley Dombrow (Lake
Forest, Ill./The Ethel Walker School) before the match, but it was
the Linfield Wildcats who celebrated the rest of the afternoon,
sweeping past the Loggers, 9-0, in a Northwest Conference women's
tennis match on Friday at UPS Tennis Pavilion in Tacoma.
The Wildcats, who are still in contention for the top seed at
next week's conference championship, swept through doubles play to
take the initial 3-0 lead over the Loggers.
In singles play, Linfield managed to win all six matches in
straight sets though not without a fight. Freshman Maddie
Thiesse (Chanhassen, Minn./Holy Family) put up the biggest battle
in the third position, rallying with Sarah Click before falling,
6-4, 6-4.
The Loggers will conclude the 2010 season on Sunday when they
travel to Parkland to take on cross-town rival Pacific Lutheran,
beginning at 11:00 a.m.
