TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound women's soccer team
remained unbeaten on Sunday with a 3-0 victory over visiting Lewis
& Clark. Mikaela Freeman tallied one goal and one assist and
Theresa Henle scored for the third consecutive game to lead the
Loggers.
It took just over one minute for the Loggers to get on the board
as Henle received a pass in the goalie box from Abby Goss and
promptly put it past the keeper for the early 1-0 lead. That would
be all the Loggers needed as Casey Thayer and Ana Calciano combined
for the team's second shutout of the season.
"Defensively, I was glad we got the shutout today because
its been a little while since we've gotten one," said
head coach Randy Hanson. "We didn't give up a lot of
shots and generated a bunch of opportunities for
ourselves."
The Loggers outshot the Pioneers 28-5 in the match, including
15-0 in the first half. Sixteen of the Loggers shots were put on
goal.
The Loggers opened the second half just as quickly as the first
as Gabbi Duhl found the back of the net on a header. Freeman
crossed the ball into the box in the 47th minute and directly to
Duhl who flicked it in for the 2-0 Logger lead.
Freeman added her goal in the 63rd minute when she won a rebound
after the Pioneer goalie made a sprawling save and tapped it in for
a 3-0 Logger lead.
The Loggers face their first road test of the season when next
week they travel to Whitworth on Saturday and Whitman on
Sunday.
