Box Score LOS ANGELES – Amanda Forshay's double-double wasn't enough to lift the Puget Sound women's basketball team past Occidental on Tuesday. The Loggers (6-5) dropped their third straight game 58-55 to the Tigers.
"We knew this would be an extremely tough road trip and that we had little room for error," said head coach Loree Payne. "Unfortunately in all three games we had stretches of lapses that we were unable to recover from."
Forshay had 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Loggers, who led 28-27 at halftime. Kelsey McKinnis had 16 points, including two clutch three-pointers down the stretch that brought the Loggers with in one point of tying the game.
McKinnis scored the Loggers last eight points of the game to bring the Loggers within one point after trailing by as many as 11. Her last jumper closed the gap to 56-55 with eight seconds remaining.
Mackenzie Brandon hit two free throws on the Tigers next possession to put the game away as the Loggers were unable to get off another shot. Brandon's 15 points led four Tigers in double digits. Katelyn Rower had 14 points while Liz Little contributed 11 points. Stephanie Scamman scored 10 points off the bench.
After falling behind early, the Loggers took a 26-25 lead when Jocelyn Riordan hit a three-pointer with 2:22 remaining in the first half. They took a 28-27 lead into the locker room at the half. However, the Tigers took a 30-28 lead less than two minutes into the game and led the rest of the way.
The Loggers finished their southern California road trip 0-3 and will return to Memorial Fieldhouse in 2012 to open conference play. They host Whitman at 6 p.m. on Jan. 6.
"We are excited to take our experience and head back into conference play," concluded Payne.
