Loggers Drop Close Match To George Fox

NEWBERG, Ore. – The University of Puget Sound men's tennis team suffered a 5-4 loss to George Fox on Saturday. The Loggers fell behind in the doubles matches and couldn't close the gap this time in singles.

Michael Cutter and Nick Kelley earned the Loggers lone doubles win in the No. 1 slot over the Bruins Scott Barnett and Preston Mann 9-8 (9-7). Pete Jackson and Josiah Jackson defeated the Logger's Brian Burger and Brent Hashiba 8-2 while Justin McClain and Andy Tweet gave the Bruins a lead with an 8-6 win over Alex Harrison and Andrew Timmons.

In the No. 5 singles match, McClain defeated Hashiba 6-2, 6-1 while Barnett earned  a quick 6-2, 6-4 victory over Cutter in the No. 1 match. Timmons took the No. 6 match for the Loggers with a 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Tweet. The Loggers also took the No. 3 and No. 4 matches with three-set wins from Kelley and Harrison.

However, Peter Brown defeated George Murphy 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 2 match to clinch the victory.

Next up, the Loggers host Whitworth at 3 p.m. on Friday.
