Loggers Outlast Pacific

TACOMA, Wash. – The University of Puget Sound women's tennis team squeaked out it second consecutive victory on Saturday with a 5-4 win over visiting Pacific.

The Loggers took a slim 2-1 advantage in doubles. Marissa Friedman and Logan Thompson made quick work against Rachel Mizuno and Stephanie Velligas of Pacific with an 8-1 victory. Ada Yu and Jenna Gerdsen also won their match 8-6. In the No. 1 match, Cat Goya and Megan Yoshimoto defeated the Loggers Madison Holtz and Maddie Thiesse 8-4.

Goya defeated Holtz in the No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-1 while Thiesse fell to Yoshimoto in the No. 2 match 6-2, 7-5. The Loggers' Thompson won the No. 4 match 6-1, 6-2 and Friedman took a 6-0, 6-1 advantage over the Boxers' Kelsey Lack to put the Logger one win away from clinching the match.

Ada Yu came through with a big 7-5, 6-4 victory in the no. 5 match to clinch the team win. However, Mizuno outlasted the Loggers' Gerdsen in the No. 3 match 6-4, 1-6, 7-6.

The Loggers hit the road next week when they travel to Whitworth on Feb. 25.
