Loggers Fall To Whitworth In Home-Opener

TACOMA, Wash, - The University of Puget Sound men's tennis team dropped its home-opener 8-1 to Whitworth on Friday but not without some dramatics. THe Loggers one victory was an epic comeback from Michael Cutter and Alex Harrison in the No. 3 doubles.

Harrison and Cutter found themselves down 7-4 in the match. However, they refused to go down and won five games in a row to take the match 9-7. In the No. 1 match, George Murphy and Chaz Stewart lost 8-0 to Whitworth's Joe Wales and Colin Zalewski. The Pirates' Daniel Redfern and Colin Burrett also defeated Sam Finkleman and Brent Hoshiba 8-6 in the doubles match.

The singles matches belonged to Whitworth as they swept all six points. Redfern defeated Finkleman 6-2, 6-0 whil Zalewski defeated Murphy 6-0, 6-2 to give the Pirates a quick 4-1 lead. In the No. 6 match, Henry Williams defeated Brent Hoshiba 6-4, 6-2 to clinch the match for the Pirates. Cameron Williams then defeated Chaz Stewart 7-6, 6-2 in the No. 4 match. The No. 3 and No. 5 matches were a bit tighter as Colin Barrett outlasted Alex Harrison 4-6, 6-4 (12-10) and Joe Wales got by Cutter in three sets 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.

The Loggers will have Saturday off but return to the courts when they host College of Idaho on Sunday at noon.
