Loggers Fall In Sweep To Pirates

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Puget Sound women's tennis team dropped a tough 9-0 match at Whitworth in a Northwest Conference match on Friday.

The Pirates (4-2 overall, 3-0 NWC) did not give up a set against the Loggers (2-3, 2-3).

After Whitworth swept through the doubles matches, led by Rachel Burns and Alli Marshall who won 8-0 in the #1 match, the Pirates clinched the team victory by winning the top three singles matches in straight sets. Burns defeated Mattie Holtz 6-0, 6-0 at #1, while Marshall topped Jenna Gerdsen 6-0, 6-1 at #3. Erica Bosman beat Maddie Thiesse 6-3, 6-1 at #2 singles. Katie Staudinger beat Logan Thompson 6-3, 6-2 at #4, while Megan Wingfield won 7-5, 6-2 at #5 over Ada Yu. Siri Carlson completed the team sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Marissa Friedman at #6 singles.

The Loggers return home tomorrow to host Mills College at 4:30 p.m.
