TACOMA, Wash. – The University of Puget Sound men's tennis team quickly opened a big lead and cruised to an 8-1 victory over Lewis & Clark on Friday.
Coming into the match, the Loggers already had two points as a short-handed Lewis & Clark team forfeited the No. 3 doubles match and the No. 6 singles.
The Loggers quickly captured a 4-0 lead as Nick Kelley and Chaz Stewart defeated George Allen and Quinn Roth-Carter 8-2. Michael Cutter and Alex Harrison also improved to a perfect 4-0 on the year with an 8-2 defeat of the Pios' Sam Franer and Kerry White.
In No. 5 singles, Andrew Timmons clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-0 defeat of Muneeb Khan. Brian Burger wasted no time in defeating Franer 6-0, 6-1 and Kelley downed White 6-1, 6-0. Stewart captured the No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Roth-Carter to give the Loggers eight win in the match.
The Pios (0-7, 0-6 NWC) captured their lone win in the No. 1 singles match with a come-from-behind victory. Allen battled back to defeat Cutter 2-6, 7-5, 10-7.
The Loggers host Willamette tomorrow at 11 a.m. in the Puget Sound Tennis Pavilion.
