Loggers Crosstown Trip Ends With 7-2 Loss

PARKLAND – The University of Puget Sound men's tennis team got back into its Northwest Conference schedule with a 7-2 loss at Pacific Lutheran on Wednesday.

The Lutes (3-7 overall, 2-6 NWC) took two of three doubles matches from the Loggers (3-8, 2-5) to open the match and clinched the match with five singles wins.

The Loggers doubles point came at No. 2 where Nick Kelley and Chas Stewart topped Michael Parretta and Daniel Cotton, 8-3.

Scott Sheldon and Taylor Dickey got the Lutes first win with a 8-0 victory over Scott Finkleman and George Murphy at No. 1 doubles. PLU also picked up a doubles point at No. 3, Zack AhYat and Neal Berg taking the measure of Alex Harrison and Michael Cutter, 8-5.

PLU took straight set victories in four of their five singles wins. Sheldon beat Cutter, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1, and Dickey took down Finkleman, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 2. Gunstone defeated Harrison, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 5, and Berg was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Ben Miller at No. 6. The Lutes' other singles win came at No. 3, where AhYat beat Stewart in a super tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4).

Kelley picked up the Loggers one singles point with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Cotton.

The Loggers return home to host Linfield on Friday at 4 p.m.
