TACOMA, Wash. – The University of Puget Sound women's tennis team continued to see success at home with a 7-2 win over Pacific Lutheran on Saturday. The Loggers (6-8, 3-5 NWC) took two of three doubles points and five of six singles points to runa away with the match.
Logan Thompson and Marissa Friedman earned a quick 8-0 victory over the Lutes' (2-8 0-8 NWC) Deanna Elmer and Hailey Rile. The Lutes responded as Leah Newell and Tina Aarrsvold defeating Maddie Thiesse and Madison Holtz 8-3. Ada Yu and Holly Dixon put the Loggers back in the lead with an 8-3 win over Caitlyn Hoerr and Saiyaare, Refaei.
In singles, Jenna Gerdsen gave the Loggers a 3-1 lead with a 6-3, 6-2win over Hoerr. Thompson followed shortly after with 6-3, 6-1 win over Refaei. Yu then defeated Rirl 6-2, 6-2 to clinch the match for the Loggers.
Friedman earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Sophia Ro to keep the Loggers rolling. Newell then earned a 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 win over Holtz for the Lutes lone singles point. Thiesse finished up the day with another win for the Loggers, taking the match 2-6, 6-0, 7-5.
The Loggers will rematch with the Lutes at Pacific Lutheran at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
