Loggers Fall 8-1 To Whitman

TACOMA, Wash. – The University of Puget Sound men's tennis team drew a tough assignment this week against Whitman. The Missionaries (6-2, 6-0 NWC) defeated the Loggers (2-3, 1-3 NWC)  8-1 on Friday.

The Missionaries came into the match ranked 19th in the NCAA Division III and sixth in the West region. They took early command with a pair of doubles wins. Whitman's Andrew La Cava and Connor Holton-Burke showed their No. 4 regional ranking, defeating Sam Finkleman and Ben Miller 8-4. Nick Kelley and Brent Hoshiba were also defeated by regionally ranked duo Etienne Moshevic and Jeff Tolman 8-3. However, the Loggers one victory of the night came in the #3 doubles match where Michael Cutter and Alex Harrison defeated Quinn Miller and Matt Tesmond 8-2.

The singles were swept by Whitman with straight-set victories in each match. Moshevic defeated Finkleman 6-2, 6-1 in the #1 match and Tolmon defeated Cha Stewart in the #2 match 6-2, 6-2.  Chris Bailey earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Cutter at #3 and Steve Roston defeated Kelley 6-2, 6-3 at #4. At #5, Miller defeated Harrison 6-3, 6-2 and Tesmond earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Miller at #6.

The Loggers will welcome Lewis & Clark for their fourth straight home match at 6 p.m. on Mar. 11.
