TACOMA, Wash. – The University of Puget Sound women's tennis team stayed perfect at home with an 8-1 win over College of Idaho on Saturday. The Loggers (4-4, 2-4 NWC) swept the singles matches to secure the convincing victory.
The Loggers took an early lead over the Yotes (0-4) with two wins in doubles. Madison Holtz and Maddie Thiesse earned an 8-3 win over Molly Leadbetter and Tanya Greenwood. The other doubles win came at No. 2 where Logan Thompson and Marissa Friedman defeated Sarah Roper and Cassie Low 8-2.
The Yotes earned their lone win of the match at No. 3 doubles with Hayley Hutchings and Teresa Kucera defeating Ada Yu and Jenna Gerdsen 8-4.
In singles, the Loggers quickly clinched the match with several straight set victories. Thompson defeated Roper 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 while Friedman defeated Greenwood 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5. Devin Fields won by the same score over Low at No. 6 to clinch the match.
Gerdsen kept the momentum on the Loggers side with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kucera. Thiesse also earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 over Hutchings. Holtz completed the sweep with a 2-6, 6-4, 10-4 defeat of Leadbetter at No. 1.
The Loggers will have next weekend off before heading to Orlando, Fla. for four matches Mar. 14-17.
