Early Lead Not Enough To Hold Off Bearcats

SALEM, Ore. – The University of Puget Sound men's tennis team took an early lead but couldn't hold on for the win as regionally-ranked Willamette earned a 6-3 victory on Saturday.

The Loggers (3-11, 2-8 NWC) took a 2-1 lead behind doubles victories at the #2 and #3 slots. Chas Stewart and Nick Kelley earned a 8-3 win at #2 while Alex Harrison and Michael Cutter returned to their winning ways with a dominating 8-0 win over Will Cooper and Garrett Vincent.

In singles, the Bearcats (10-5, 9-1 NWC) took the first five singles flights to comeback for the victory. Michael Bumgartner took down Cutter 6-3, 6-4 while Joshua Wong earned a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Stewart. George Murphy fell 6-1, 6-0 and Alex Harrison suffered a 6-3, 6-0 defeat. Vincent kept the Bearcats rolling with a 6-2 , 6-3 win over Kelley.

Brian Burger earned the Loggers lone win o6-2, 7-5 over Cooper.

The Loggers will finish their season on the road next week on the road against Whitworth and Whitman.
