TACOMA, Wash. – It took another dramatic comeback in the early game, but the University of Puget Sound baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Pacific on Saturday with 6-5 and 4-1 wins. In the first game, the Loggers (16-15, 14-7 NWC) scored three runs in the final frame to steal the victory.

Game 1 – W, 6-5

Going into the bottom of the ninth, the Loggers were down 5-3 but had some momentum with a run in each of the previous two innings. Andrew Grady and Dakota Resnik singled in back-to-back at-bats and advanced on a wild pitch to put runners on second and third with no outs. The hit was Grady's third of the game.

After Jeff Walton was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Will Mentor came through with a single to score Grady and Resnik and tie the game at 5-5. However, the Loggers weren't done.

Mentor went 4-for-5 in the game with the two clutch RBIs to lead the Loggers offensively.

Pinch hitter Addison Melzer was intentionally walked to load the bases, bringing up Chaz Kramer with one out and the winning run on third. Kramer hit a grounder to second and the Boxers retired Melzer at second and tried to turn the double play. However, the throw was off line and Kramer was called safe at first, allowing Walton to score the winning run from third for a 6-5 Logger win.

It was the Loggers third walkoff victory in their last three home stands.

"I can't really explain it. This team just never gives up," commented head coach Brian Billings. "We just believe that we can always find a way to win at the end of a game."

Cam Duvall picked up the win as he allowed just one hit over the final 1.1 innings and shut down a Boxer rally in the eighth.

Chad Fahey had a tough-luck no-decision for the Boxers after he allowed just one earned run in eight innings of work. He also fanned five Loggers while issuing no walks.

Nick Tsaka had given the Boxers a comfortable lead with a two-RBI single in the sixth the at put the Boxers up 4-1. Nate Rasmussen had homered earlier in the inning.

The Loggers closed the gap with a run in the seventh and another in the eighth to set up the late inning heroics.

Game 2 – W, 4-1

The Logger pitching staff rode the momentum of the Loggers walk-off win to a 4-1 victory in the second game and a series sweep of the Boxers Lucas Stone tossed five shutout innings to move to 2-0 on the year.

"The goal is to sweep every weekend and we felt that if we swept, we would have a good chance to finish in second place," added Billings. "We got that done so now we have to play a good Willamette team on the road."

Stone scattered six hits over those five innings and struck out three. He also issued no free passes to the Boxers.

Alex Baugh tossed 2.1 innings in relief and allowed two hits and three walks but managed to keep the Boxers off the scoreboard except for an unearned run in the eighth. Baugh fought of a jam in the seventh when the Boxers loaded the bases with one out. He produced an infield fly and a groundout to squash the threat.

Duvall made his second appearance of the day to close the books on the series. He allowed one walk and three hits but struck out two over the final 1.2 innings to complete the Loggers win.

Matt Cox was 2-for-4 in the game with two RBIs to lead the Loggers. His first-inning double gave the Loggers their initial 1-0 lead. He also tripled in a run in the fifth to score the Loggers third run.

Craig Driver also hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth to complete the Loggers scoring and give them a 4-0 lead.

The Loggers will host Central Washington on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in their final non-conference mach up before travelling to Salem, Ore. for a three-game series with Willamette.
