TACOMA, Wash. – The final weekend of the season began with a 9-0 loss to Whitworth for the University of Puget Sound women's tennis team. The Pirates (15-2, 10-0 NWC) kept their unbeaten season going and stayed in the driver's seat for an NWC title.
The Pirates quickly swept through the doubles. Rachel Burns and Alli Marshall took the #1 doubles 8-0 over Madison Holtz and Maddie Thiesse and the rest fell in to place.
In singles, Erica Bosman defeated Thiesse 6-0, 6-2 for a 4-0 Pirate lead. Burns then fought off Holtz 6-1, 6-3 to clinch the match. However, the Loggers did not stop fighting.
Ada Yu pushed Megan Wingfield to the brink but eventually fell 0-6, 7-6 (1), 10-6. Marissa Friedman also came within a few points of bucking the sweep but Siri Carlson took the final match 4-6, 7-5, 11-9.
The Loggers will conclude their season tomorrow when they host Whitman at 11 a.m.
