Box Score TACOMA, Wash. – A solid defensive and rebounding effort boosted the Loggers to a 65-57 win over Linfield on Friday night. The Loggers (9-7, 5-2 NWC) defense forced 19 turnovers from the Wildcats (8-8, 2-5 NWC) to key the victory.
The Loggers used 16 points off turnovers and forced 13 second half turnovers to keep the Wildcats at arms through the second half. The first half was a bit more of a back-and-forth battle as the half featured six ties and seven lead changes.
Jocelyn Riordan led the defensive effort as she bottled up the NWC's leading-scorer Gretchen Owens for the first half and the first part of the second half. Owens had just two points at the break but finished with a game-high 19 points and nine rebounds.
Riordan added eight points to the Logger effort. Sarah Stewart had a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with five points. As a team, the Loggers won the battle at the boards with a 47-38 advantage.
Kelsey McKinnis's 17 points led the Loggers while Erin Stumbaugh added 12 points with 3-of-6 shooting behind the three-point line.
After the Loggers took a 32-26 lead into the break, they never trailed in the second half.
The Loggers remain at home tomorrow to host nationally-ranked Lewis & Clark at 6 p.m.
