TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound men's tennis team fell 9-0 in its 2012 season opener on Sunday. The Loggers (0-1, 0-1 NWC) took two tough losses in the double portion of the match before falling in straight sets in all six singles matches.
Abe Noyes and John Stevens fought tough in the No. 3 doubles match but eventually fell in a tiebreaker 9-8 (7-4) to Kolin Wong and Hector Alcayde. Ben Miller and George Murphy also hung tough in a 9-7 loss in the No. 2 match.
The Boxers (1-0, 1-0 NWC) proved to be even tougher in the singles matches, winning all six in straight sets and two matches without conceding a game.
Michael Cutter fell 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 1 match to Troy Zuroske and Ben Miller lost 6-2, 6-4 at the hands of Gincarlo Battaglia. Spencer Higa took the No. 2 match 6-0, 6-0 as did Brandon Schlak to secure a Pacific victory.
The Loggers remain at home tomorrow to host Division I opponent Seattle University.
