Loggers Comeback For Key 5-4 Win Over Pacific

TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound women's tennis team won a key Northwest Conference match over Pacific on Friday with a 5-4 comeback win. With the win the Loggers (7-8, 6-5 NWC) moved above .500 in conference play.

Cathlene Goya and Megan Yoshimoto captured the #1 doubles match for the Boxer 8-2 and Lillian Do and Kelsey Trujillo gave the Boxers a 2-0 advantage with a 8-4 win in the #2 match. However, Ada Yu and Maddie Thiesse won the #3 match 8-6 in what proved to be an essential win for the Loggers.

When singles started, Goya defeated Maddie Holtz 6-0, 6-1 for another Boxer point but Logan Thompson's 6-0, 6-0 win in the #3 match made the score 3-2. The Loggers kept rolling as Thiesse won 6-2, 6-2 over Kelsey Trujillo in the #5 match and Marissa Friedman won 6-3, 6-4 over Amber Craviotto in the #6 match.

Both the #2 and #4 matches went three sets with the Loggers holding a 4-3 advantage in the match. Josie Dow was able to put away the #4 match to clinch the win for the Loggers with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory. Yoshimoto ended up winning the #2 match 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 for the Boxers.

With the win, the Loggers continued to stay in the hunt for the No. 4 seed in the NWC Tournament and actually took the driver's seat in the battle for the final seed. They can clinch a winning conference record tomorrow when they host George Fox at 11 a.m.
