Ryan's Early Goal Stands Up For 1-0 Win

Box Score

TACOMA, Wash. – It took just five minutes and 16 seconds for the Puget Sound men's soccer team to strike in a 1-0 win over Trinity Lutheran on Saturday. In the Loggers (2-1-1) home-opener, Sean Ryan put the Loggers ahead early en route to the win.

Ryan's goal, the lone goal of the match, came just over five minutes into the match when Oliver Field sent a perfect cross into the six-yard box. Ryan was unmarked and headed the ball directly into the back of the net for an early Logger lead.

Later in the first half, the Eagles (4-3-1) had an opportunity when they put their only shot on goal. Sekou Rolland fired a shot with a swinging kick on frame but Chris McDonald put himself in perfect position to make the easy save.

For most of the 90 minutes, the Loggers controlled possession and held a 13-9 shot advantage to show for it. Both teams managed six shots in the second half although none were on frame.

The goal was Ryan's first of the season but gives him points in three of the Loggers four matches this year with assists in the first two matches of the year.

The Loggers take on Colorado College at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow. The Tigers (3-1) defeated George Fox 6-0 in the second game of the day at Baker Stadium.
