Loggers Suffer Season-Opening Loss To Boxers

TACOMA, Wash. – The 2013 season opened on Friday for the Puget Sound men's tennis team with an 8-1 loss to Pacific. John Stevens scored the Loggers (0-1, 0-1 NWC) point in the number six singles match.

Stevens came away with the 6-3 7-5 win at #6 over Pacific's Ty Tanaka. However, the Boxers (1-0, 1-0 NWC) captured the rest of the points to come away with the win. Troy Zuroske defeated Mike Cutter 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 in the #1 match and Giancarlo Battaglia came away with the 6-0, 6-0 win over newcomer Daniel Deuel in the #2 match.

Graham Baker forced a third set in his first match as a Logger but fell 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 to Alen Suklje. Daniel Yanagita defeated Jake Peterson 6-3, 6-1 in the #4 match and Kolin Wong captured the #5 match 6-0, 6-3 over Abe Noyes.

Zuroske and Battaglia teamed up to defeat Cutter and Deuel 8-1 in #1 doubles. Suklje and Yanagita defeated Baker and Peterson 8-2 in the #2 match and Wong teamed up with Lome Bulling to complete the Boxer doubles sweep with an 8-3 win over Noyes and Stevens.

The Loggers are back in action on Sunday when they host George Fox at 3 p.m.
