TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the 2013 season on Friday in a 6-3 decision to Whitworth. Logan Thompson recorded a singles and a doubles win for the Loggers (2-1, 2-1 NWC).

Thompson teamed up with Marissa Friedman to score the Loggers only doubles point of the night in the #2 match. They defeated Whitworth's Jessi Steele and Annika Westre 8-6. Maddie Thiesse and Josie Dow fell by the same score in the #1 match to Taylor Pena and Saryn Mooney. The Pirates (2-2, 2-1 NWC) took the #3 match as well with Megan Wingfield and Morgan McDivitt winning 8-4 over Malia Ford and Allison Embernate.

Whitworth quickly came within one point of clinching the match as Thiesse fell 6-3, 6-2 in #1 singles to Mooney and Allison Goo fell 6-2, 6-3 to McDivitt at #6. However, the Loggers fought back to stay in contention behind a 6-1, 6-0 win from Ford over Caylee Lamm at #5 and a 7-5, 6-2 win for Thompson over Steele.

Friedman and Dow needed to force third sets for the Loggers to stay in the match and Dow did just that in the #4 match. However, Friedman lost a hard-fought battle at #3 to Pena 6-2, 6-4. Dow eventually fell to Wingfield in close match and even closer third set 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 7-5.

The match was the only match this week for the Loggers. They will next head to crosstown rival Pacific Lutheran next Friday for a 3:30 p.m. match.
