Loggers Power Past Linfield For First Win

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Puget Sound men's tennis team earned its first win of the 2013 season with a 6-3 victory at Linfield on Friday. The Loggers (1-7, 1-7 NWC) took the lead after doubles and didn't let up to earn the win.

The Loggers scored two doubles to take the early advantage. Michael Cutter and Graham Baker won 9-7 at No. 1 while Abe Noyes and john Stevens won 8-4 at No.3 The Wildcats duo of Time Hawkins and Micah Roos slavaged one point for the hosts by squeaking out a 9-8 (8-6) win at No. 2.

Stevens and Noyes both went on to win in the singles portion of the match. Stevens defeated Alex Mangan 6-4, 6-4 at No. 6 while Noyes won 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 at No. 4 over Joel Trousdale. Daniel Deuel scored another straight set win with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3 and the Loggers had the match clinched.

Cutter was still hungry in the No. 1 match as he overcame a first set loss to win 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 for the Loggers sixth point.

The Loggers are next off to Orlando, Fla. for four neutral matches over spring break.
