Loggers Outlast Linfield In Lengthy 5-4 Match

TACOMA, Wash. – Another strong showing in the singles matches led to another comeback win for the Puget Sound women's tennis team. The Loggers (5-3, 5-3 NWC) defeated Linfield 5-4 on Friday night.
 
Marissa Friedman and Logan Thompson secured the first point of the match with a win in No. 2 doubles. The duo needed a tiebreaker but came away with the 9-8 (7-1) win to defeat their counterparts from Linfield (4-7, 4-3 NWC). The Wildcats took both the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles points for a 2-1 lead.
 
Friedman and Allison Embernate put the Loggers back in the lead with some straight set wins in singles. Friedman defeated Kwynn Ecton 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 before Embernate won 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 6 match over Katie Krieger.
 
The remaining four matches needed a third set to be decided. Maddie Thiesse put the Loggers one point from clinching with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 win in the No. 1 match over Lexi Thomas. However, Jenna Gerdsen fell in the No. 2 match 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 to Caroline Brigham.
 
In the No. 3 match Thompson and Kailia Nip traded the first two sets. Thompson then came back in the third set to win the point and score the clincher for the Loggers – 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.
 
The Loggers also face College of Idaho tonight in a back end of a doubleheader before heading off the Orlando, Fla. for four matches over spring break.
