Doubles Sweep Leads To Logger Victory Over Calvin

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Puget Sound women's tennis team started its spring break trip off right with a 6-3 win over Calvin on Monday. The Loggers (7-3) swept the doubles points to take the initial lead and help fuel the win.

Logan Thompson and Marissa Friedman posted a quick 8-2 win in the No. 2 match to get the Logger rolling. Jenna Gerdsen and Josie Dow won 8-6 at No. 3 while Maddie Thiesse and Allison Embernate completed the sweep with a 9-7 win at No. 1.

The Knights (2-4) were able to split the singles points with the Loggers but could not climb out of the 3-0 hole. Megan Visser won 6-3, 6-2 over Thiesse in No. 1 singles to put Calvin on the board. Ali Roode also won at No. 3 for Calvin in a rare 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) loss for Thompson. Samantha Reitsma's 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5 over Dow completed the Knights' scoring.

Jenna Gerdsen won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 for the Loggers while Friedman won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4 Embernate also pulled out a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-3) win in the No. 6 match.

The Loggers will face Colorado College tomorrow morning in the second match of the trip.
