SALEM, Ore. – The Puget Sound men's tennis team took an early lead but couldn't hold off a Willamette comeback in a 5-4 loss at Willamette on Saturday. The Loggers (0-7, 0-7 NWC) took a 2-1 lead after doubles for the first time this season but the Bearcats (3-5, 3-3 NWC) took four singles points to complete the comeback.
Daniel Deuel and Jake Peterson won No. 2 doubles for the second day in a row, winning 8-4. John Stevens and Abe Noyes also won at No. 3 doubles 8-5.
With a 2-1 lead going into singles matches, Deuel won 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3 and Stevens won 7-6, 6-1 at No. 6. However, Willamette claimed victories in the other four matches in straight sets to erase the deficit and come away with the win.
The Loggers head back down to Oregon next weekend. They will face Linfield on Saturday at 4 p.m.
