Loggers remain perfect with 6-3 win at Willamette

SALEM, Ore.—The Puget Sound women's tennis squad won its third match of the 2014 season Friday afternoon, dispatching Willamette by a score of 6-3 at Courthouse Tennis Center in Salem, Ore.

The Loggers won two doubles matches, claiming two early points. Elizabeth Chao and Malia Ford won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles, and the Puget Sound duo Sarah Nielsen and Allison Embernate prevailed 8-5 in the third doubles slot.

In singles play, the visitors from Tacoma won Nos. 3, 4, 5, and 6 singles. Marissa Friedman won in No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-2, while Chao tallied her second win of the afternoon in the fourth singles position. They both remain undefeated at 3-0 in singles play so far this year and Chao has yet to lose a doubles match as well.

Ford and Nielsen also won singles matches with Ford prevailing 6-4, 7-6(7-5) in No. 5 singles and Nielsen winning in straight sets as well at 6-4, 6-1. Nielson is also 3-0 during individual play in 2014.

The Loggers (3-0, 2-0 NWC) are back in action Saturday, March 1, when they travel to Linfield. That match will begin at 11:00 a.m. in McMinnville, Ore.
