Loggers suffer first loss of season at Linfield

McMINNVILLE, Ore.—The Puget Sound women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday in a 8-1 defeat to Linfield at the Linfield Tennis Center in McMinniville, Ore.

The Loggers' lone point on the day came from Malia Ford. The junior beat Gretchen Jernstedt 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 5 singles position for the win.

At No. 6 singles, Sarah Nielsen pushed Mackenzie Fraser to a tiebreak before falling 4-6, 6-3, (10-3) in a tiebreak, and Elizabeth Chao also saw a set tiebreak in her loss at No. 4 singles to Marisa Kume as well.

Puget Sound fell in all three doubles matches, but at No. 3 doubles, the Logger duo of Nielsen and Allison Embernate forced a tiebreak before falling 9-8(7-3) to their Linfield opponents.

The Loggers suffered their first defeat on the 2014 season, falling to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play. They look to rebound from the setback Friday, March 7 with a home contest against George Fox. That match will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Tennis Pavilion in Tacoma, Wash.
