SPOKANE, Wash.—The Puget Sound women's tennis squad suffered just its second loss of the season Friday night, an 8-1 defeat to the hands of the Whitworth Pirates at Scotford Tennis Center in Spokane, Wash.
Allison Embernate tallied the Loggers' only point of the match with a victory in singles play. The junior easily dispatched the Pirates' Caylee Lamm 6-0, 6-1 in the fifth singles position the win, her fourth of the season. At 4-0, she's the only undefeated Logger left this season.
At No. 6 singles, Holly Dixon played a close contest with KC McConnell. Dixon won the first set 5-7 dropped the second one 6-3. In the third set super tiebreak, Dixon fell 10-5 for a 5-7, 6-3, 1-0(10-5) loss in the match. Atop the singles standings, Logan Thompson won six games in a 6-2, 6-4 defeat at the hands of Saryn Mooney.
In the doubles matches that kicked off the match, all three Loggers fell as well. The closest double match came at No. 1 doubles where Thompson and Marissa Friedman fell 8-4 to the Pirates' duo of Mooney and Taylor and Pena.
The Loggers (5-2, 4-2 NWC) continue their brief two-match road trip with a contest at Whitman Saturday, March 15. That match against the Missionaries will begin at 1:00 p.m. in Walla Walla, Wash.
