PORTLAND, Ore.—The Puget Sound men's tennis team fell 8-1 to Lewis & Clark in a Northwest Conference matchup Saturday, but the match was much closer than the score indicated at the LC Tennis Dome in Portland, Ore.

Myles Rivera-Flam scored the Loggers' sole point, winning in straight sets at No. 3 singles. He took down the Pioneers' Cameron Smith 6-2, 6-1 for the win.

At No. 5 singles, John Stevens played a tiebreak third set. Stevens won the first set 3-6, but fell in the second set 6-1. He rebounded during the tiebreak, but fell by just two points 10-8 for the 3-6, 6-1, (10-8) loss to Scott Monismith. Also playing a close singles match, Chas Stewart forced an extra game in the second set at No. 2 singles. He fell in the first set 6-4, but forced Daniel Hahm of Lewis & Clark into an extra game before falling 7-5 for a 6-4, 7-5 match score.

In doubles play, Daniel Deuel and Jake Peterson also forced an extra game in their No. 1 doubles contest. They pushed the Pioneers' Smith and Michael Brewer into tallying an additional game victory in their 9-7 loss to the Lewis & Clark duo.

With the loss, Puget Sound falls to 1-4 (1-4 NWC). They look to rebound with two home games next weekend against Whitworth and Whitman. They host the Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 14 and the Missionaries at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15. Both games will take place at the Tennis Pavilion on the Puget Sound campus in Tacoma, Wash.
