Loggers finish off home weekend with win over Pioneers

TACOMA, Wash.—The Puget Sound women's tennis team completed a 2-0 weekend in Northwest Conference action Saturday with a 6-3 win over Lewis & Clark at the on-campus Tennis Pavilion in Tacoma, Wash.

To start the match, the Loggers won two of the three doubles matches for an early 2-1 lead. At No. 3 doubles, Sarah Nielsen and Allison Embernate took down the Pioneers' Olivia Sweetman and Paloma Vizcaino 8-2, and Malia Ford and Elizabeth Chao won 8-3 over Makena McCluskey and Allison Schneider at No. 2 doubles. Ford and Chao are now 5-1 in doubles this season, the best record on the squad.

In singles play, Embernate and Holly Dixon scored two more quick points for the Loggers, dominating their matches. Embernate swept Schneider 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, and Dixon took down Vizcaino 6-0, 6-1. 

The Loggers got two more points in singles play thanks to Nielsen and Chao. Nielsen won her fourth singles position contest 6-3, 6-3, and Chao took three sets to defeat McCluskey 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 in No. 3 singles.

Puget Sound (5-1, 4-1 NWC) hits the road again for two more matches Friday, March 14 and Saturday, March 15. They take on Whitworth in Spokane, Wash. at 4:00 p.m. March 14 and Whitman in Walla Walla at 1:00 p.m. March 15.
