Women's Tennis' season comes to end in NWC Tournament

WALLA WALLA, Wash.—The Puget Sound women's tennis season came to an end Saturday with a 5-0 loss at Whitman in the Northwest Conference Tournament semifinals. With the semifinal match at Whitman, the Loggers made their first NWC Tournament appearance in at least six years.

The match started in doubles play with the top-seeded Missionaries sweeping all three doubles contests. Sarah Nielsen and Allison Embernate tallied five games at No. 3 singles but fell to Jenna Dobrin and Hannah Palkowitz 8-5.

In singles action Puget Sound fell in the only two contests to finish as in tournament action, all play stops once a team has clinched the match with five points. Malia Ford fell in the first match to finish 6-1, 6-0, and Marissa Friedman lost 6-1, 6-2 in the second.

At the time play was halted, Logan Thompson had a one-set lead on Jenna Dobrin at No. 1 singles. Thompson won the first set 6-2 and was ahead in the second 3-2 when the match finished up.

With the loss, the Loggers end 2014 with a 8-6 record. They lose five seniors to graduation but also return five players, including four lineup regulars.
