Box Score

TACOMA, Washington – The University of Puget Sound men's soccer team won its season opener with a 5-0 victory over Trinity Lutheran College on Tuesday afternoon at Peyton Field.

Puget Sound (1-0) opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Cameron Lorek blasted a shot into the top left corner of the net. The sophomore forward scored again in the 31st minute on an assist by Tristan Stevenson. Just before the half, Kenechi Agha increased the lead to 3-0.

The Loggers recorded two additional goals in the second half. Benjamin Whitham put a ball in the upper left corner on an assist by Sam Zisette in the 49th minute, before Brandon Gonzalez volleyed a Kian Evans cross into the net in the 87th minute.

Puget Sound dominated the game, only allowing Trinity Lutheran (0-1) three total shots while recording 26 shots of its own. The Loggers shot total was the most since they had 33 in a game against Saint Mary's in 2008.

The Loggers took nine corner kicks, while the Eagles took none. Sam Zisette led Puget Sound with 10 shots, while goalkeepers Daniel Kirsch and Wren Norwood each recorded one save.

Puget Sound's next match will be Friday, September 4, when they travel to Elmhurst, Illinois, to take on John Carroll at 5:30 p.m.
